Review: Audacity – The Free, Cross-Platform Sound Editor
— quote from the Audacity website —
Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.

A friend/colleague turned me on to a wonderful “open source” audio recorder called Audacity.  Audacity not only lets you create your own audio files, but allowes you to edit them and save to popular formats.  Here is a complete list of its endless features:

All I can tell you is… I spent the entire afternoon playing with Audacity and was able to convert some bad quality motivational recordings I made with a hand-held micro cassette recorder into usable MP3s I can now listen to when I am out walking or working at the computer.Â
Of course, IF you were making brand new audio recordings the quality would be excellent, in my case I did not have good quality to start with, but it turned out more than acceptable for my private use. If I can hear it and understand it, I am happy!
The program is easy to use, has wonderful help files and is free! I could not ask for more than that! Check out the help files at:

Now I am trying to figure out how to make the MP3s into a Data CD that my Sony Diskman will play as the Diskman does not have MP3 compatability. Any ideas?
