The Woes of Upgrading WordPress to 2.6

In a few days I will be back catching up with you. I am just now upgrading my blogs from way earlier WordPress versions. That in itself has been traumatic, but a fantastic learning experience. Don’t ask! I’ll tell you though!

IF you are going to upgrade your WordPress Blog do the “manual” upgrade for now. The WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin is great, however, it does not always work. Keith, the plugin writer is aware and is working on a fix I believe.

This is what I am doing for the time being. I am upgrading to WordPress 2.5.1. Hopefully the Automatic Plugin will be available soon and then I will use it to upgrade to WordPress 2.6. WHY?

It seems — whether or not you use the WordPress Automatic Update Plugin — some people’s Category Names disappear and have to be inserted manually. It’s not such a big deal once you know how to do it, but then there was another problem… The plugin did not Unzip the archive on one of my blogs and I had to do the upgrade manually.

After some investigation I was told… IF you upgrade to WordPress Version 2.5 and THEN use the Automatic Plugin you will not lose the Category Names. Whether this is true or not, I can’t tell you as the plugin did not work for me so I never completed the automatic upgrade from WordPress Version 2.5.1 to 2.6.
